What I Learned at a Rare Beauty Masterclass About Blush, Texture, and Face Shape

After attending a Rare Beauty masterclass with Cintia, their Lead of Education, one idea completely changed the way I thought about makeup:
Makeup is not just about putting products on your face. It is about deciding what you want your face to do.
Do you want it to look more lifted? Softer? More sculpted? More radiant? More awake?
That masterclass focused less on copying one exact look and more on understanding finish, texture, placement, and how every product changes the overall effect. So I took those lessons and recreated them in a way that felt more like me: soft, colorful, glowy, and a little dramatic.
Start by shaping the face
One of the biggest techniques I took from the class was to shape the face before applying the rest of the complexion products.
I began with bronzer directly over my skincare-prepped skin, using it to create soft shadows around the face. It may look slightly intense or muddy at first, but that is okay because blush, highlighter, and the remaining makeup will soften everything.
The goal is not to create harsh contour lines. It is to establish the structure first.
Blush is more than color
For this look, I mixed two Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush shades:
Grateful, a bold red
Joy, a warm peachy shade
Blending the two created a warm, vibrant flush that still felt soft and wearable.
The biggest lesson from the training was that blush placement can completely change the face.
Placing blush higher toward the temples can help the face appear more lifted and sculpted. Applying it closer to the apples of the cheeks creates a rounder, softer, more youthful effect.
Blush can make the face look:
Lifted
Awake
Soft
Sculpted
Radiant
The shade matters, but the placement matters just as much.
Think about texture and finish
Rare Beauty products are known for creating a fresh, luminous complexion, and the masterclass emphasized paying attention to how different textures interact.
Cream and liquid products can create a more skin-like effect, while powder products can add structure and longevity.
For this look, I wanted to keep the skin glowing and dimensional, so I avoided making the entire face overly matte.
Highlight with intention
I finished the complexion with a Rare Beauty highlighter in the shade Truth, placing it on the high points of the face, including the cheeks, nose, and cupid’s bow.
The pink-toned finish added glow without losing the warmth from the blush.
Highlight is most effective when it supports the shape you already created rather than covering the entire face in shimmer.
Making the Rare Beauty technique feel like me
I love Rare Beauty’s soft, glowy approach, but I also love colorful eyeshadow and a little more drama.
Instead of recreating the masterclass look exactly, I used the techniques as a foundation and adapted them to my personal style.
That is probably the most valuable lesson I took from the experience: professional techniques are not rules. They are tools.
You can modify the placement, colors, textures, and intensity until the look feels like you.
